There is almost three months between the Deep Purple concert announcement and the actual show. Why so long? There is always a big span between announcements and shows but this seems even longer than most.

Curious as to why myself. I have had this happen on numerous occasions. Almost every Matthew Good concert has been a millennium between announcement/sales and the actual concert date.

I bought my tix July 15th for his Nov. 29th show.

Enough time for word of mouth advertising, perhaps?

Deep Purple is a great rock band but I just don't think they have the sort of following that can fill up arenas with only a month or so between ticket sales and the gig -- especially in a relatively small market like the south Island.

Victoria's arena is mostly host to bands on their way up or bands on their way out and I think the general population has caught on to this and is starting to look towards Vancouver and Seattle once again for major gigs.

If Prince does not cancel , how much will tickets be sold for by the scalpers once the show starts? Does any one have experience buying from out front of the Sofa. It's the 12th and I can still buy Floor tickets for Prince on Select Your Tickets, not my experience with any other concert I have gone too.

Bryan Adams tickets went on sale today even though he won't be playing until June 15. The amazing thing was, tickets started at $20 so it's little wonder they sold out in minutes. Hopefully he'll do another show at Save-On like last time.

2145 members at this site and not one of them is a Bryan Adams fan?

Wow.

I've seen him twice.

Er....nope. Saw him once 30 years ago as part of the first concert in BC Place, which had original Supertramp lineup as the headliners. Sorry Phil. Now you get the Rippingtons to make an appearance here and I'll be there faster than you can say your name, um....even your real name.

He's cool. Wouldn't go to a show, though.

Interesting venue. Interesting also that they are using Ticketmaster. I'm guessing TM has cut their fees a lot faced with increased competition. I noticed that the Brink Events mystery party used EventBrite. And looking at that site, it's pretty nice.

EventBrite pricing is:

Quote:
Sell tickets online for a small fee: 2.5% plus $0.99 per ticket

We will never charge you more
than $9.95 per ticket.
...and they charge 3% for credit cards.

Wouldn't this have been a nice event to have at Beacon Hill Park, if we didn't operate there under stupid rules...

BHP is so underutilized for outdoor/community events.

Does anyone know who actually came up with that anti-commerce park bylaw?

The city of Victoria holds the park by way of a trust deed. This from http://www.beaconhillparkhistory.org.../chapter12.htm

A proposal to lease part of Beacon Hill Park for five years to build and operate a 18 hole Pitch and Putt commercial golf course was sent to the City by C. N. High on January 9, 1942. Mr. High proposed spending $8,000 on the installation, which would include fences, floodlights, a clubhouse, refreshments and toilets. He planned to charge 25 cents for 18 holes. The Park Committee recommended to City Council that a lease of the grounds be granted to Mr. High for $50 a year. (CRS 106, 12 F 2)

On January 16, 1942, the Native Sons of Canada, Victoria Assembly #1, protested to the Mayor that a Pitch and Putt business “would be a violation of the Trust deed under which Beacon Hill Park was conveyed to the City of Victoria.” (CRS 106, 12 F 2)

I was thinking of the steep south-facing slope for seating; where kids toboggan in the snow. The band would be at the foot of the hill near Dallas Rd. On a warm summer day it would be a fine natural amphitheatre with the benefit of the sound possibly carrying to Port Angeles in the evening! Of course, as long as I'm in fantasyland, the lineup should be the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and a reunited Led Zeppelin.
