Just a darned minute here. I listen to Hedley, and I am old enough to be an usher. Second row seats for the "Ladies" wow. How is the tinnitus this morning?

Everyone laughed real loud along with the band. Mo:le, Elk Lake jogging trail, Tofino, Harpo's, Save On Foods jokes from BNL and Plaskett, all good fun. Sounds like the guys have been here a few days.

In typical fashion, 3/4 or more of the crowd did not even stand up and dance for even one song, lucky I was second row and we stood for the whole show.

Minimal beer lineups for a change.

Jeez, tough crowd here.

OK, song of note they DID NOT do: Enid, Brian Wilson, Pinch Me. They did about 5-6 songs from their new album, I've come to expect that at shows, and I saturate myself with the new stuff for a week before I go, so I know all the songs. All the guys sang lead vocals on at least one song each, except the drummer, something Tyler I think his name is.

No video screen, I'm seeing a trend here, and I don't like it one bit. They had about 12 things that looked like huge oven-racks hanging behind them when they were not lit up, but then they lit up with to me, kind of lame graphics, considering the tech world we live in.

Poor crowd size. It was a half-bowl, and only 2/3 full. That's down from selling 1.5 arenas-full in 2007 (sold-out show plus one extra night added that ended up half-full).

Now, a review from a guy that gets paid: http://www.timescolonist.com/enterta...493/story.html

Anyone else take in the prolonged Wilco show in February?

Holy smokes that was amazing - they just kept going and going, pulled out lots of Mermaid Ave. material, old, new - just incredible. Good crowd too, nice mix of young and old. Much better than when I saw Kris Kristofferson last year. That was just old.

Matt.

That was definitely a special Wilco show. Saw their show the next night too in Vancouver but it just wasn't the same.

THE NAVY ROCKS Concert: Sam Roberts Band, 54-40, special guest Matt Mays
Saturday, June 12th, 2010 | 7:00 PM
Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre

The Navy Rocks concert is an opportunity for the general public to join in celebrating the Canadian Naval Centennial with local and foreign sailors during the International Fleet Review. Everyone is welcome!
They didn't originally think they'd need to sell to the general public, but I guess they need to now. Although since May 21 the pre-sale code has been readily available to anyone if you knew the bands or a military member.

Default just venting.....

In my book one of the many levels of hell is being an unwilling participant in a loud live country music concert. This is happening to me now. I was just sitting here having lunch in my condo when this overly loud, unpleasant music started blasting in my window. It took a while to figure out the source of it - looked like something was going on at the Leg. I called security and asked if they were hosting a live concert. "No," he said "but the minister is making an announcement to the beef industry." So I guess you can't talk to ranchers without a live soundtrack.
An hour later and it now seems to be over. Thank god. I was about to pitch myself over the balcony.

(thank you for listening...)

^^Was it New Country?
That's the only genre that would actually kill me if I was forced to listen in a locked room.

This song is super catchy from the movie Wild Hearts. This is a behind the scenes look at its filming. They filmed it in one take in the middle of a Toby Keith concert so they could have a real crowd.

Concert attendees did not know it was gonna happen. Colin Farrell comes on a bit into it. I thought it was cool. Was nominated for best original song from motion picture, can't remember if it won. EDIT: It did win the Oscar.

^Yeah that's bearable. The fact that Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell are singing it helps. That's more old country than new country I think.

Sounds like a great lineup, but if they're having 1986 music I wish they could charge 1986 prices.

Oh well, at least we know all the songs. Barney Bentall is playing Butchart Gardens this Saturday too. After Something to Live For, some picked him as the next Bruce Springstein. I guess not.

I didn't want to bring this up before because I did not want to appear as bragging, but we lost one of Victoria's early rockers last week. Gary Lindsay was one of the pioneers in the rock and roll music scene.

He was also my cousin and I played in a band with him.

Imagine my delight when he convinced my mother (I was 15 at the time) that I should travel with the rest of his band to Lake Tahoe in the summer of 65.

Off we went in his 57 Chevy 2 door hard top, just the 4 of us on a roady.

We stopped in Portland and bought tickets for a concert that we could catch on the way back.

The Vietnam war was on then so there were not many young men in Tahoe, so the odds were good if you catch my drift.

So after my best summer vacation of my life we started home and caught the concert in Portland.

The Beatles. Tickets cost $8......the summer just kept getting better.

Thank you Gary for letting me tag along.

So, the SOFMC had three events in June (ZZ Top, Navy Rocks and Monster Trucks) and nothing since. And this is all that's on the schedule....

* Cirque Du Soleil
September 08, 2010 (1:00 AM)
* 2011 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships
January 17, 2011 (1:00 PM)

What gives?

Well according to the City of Victoria financial statements it appears as though RG still has not paid for the operating rights for the arena. If that is the case then it isn't costing them to much to do nothing.
