Here's a message posted on Cabin 12's FB page.

"Interesting note about our move...
Cabin 12 is named after the original Cabin 12 at Blue Lake Summer Camp.
But here's the thing, the cabins at camp haven't been numbers for years, in '99 they were all renamed after trees.
Cabin 12's name? Cedar Cabin. Cabin 12's new location? Cedar Hill.
Very interesting...."

If I ever owned a restaurant, I think I'd call it Füd. Oh wait, I do own a restaurant. Never mind.

La Collina wasn't a restaurant and everyone after the seemed to try and turn it into one with minimal investment and renos.

Taken. And taken again and again and again etc. etc. with either the umlaut or long vowel symbol.

I drove past Cabin 12 last night and it looked hopping. I hope they do well there. Maybe they can attract the old Cedar Hill golf club crowd with some good old clubhouse sandwiches and liver & onions.

Yet I can't find a single restaurant named "food". I guess restauranteurs are so busy trying to be clever they overlook the obvious.

These "two"? You're lumping me in with Holden? Thanks but I think he's a little funnier than I am even though most of his jokes get completely overlooked/ignored here.

oh no, it wouldn't be VV without a joke from Holden every now and then. Levity is always appreciated amidst the angst!

and I'm lovin VHFs recent burger reviews. Keep em comin.

Back on topic, I'll be sure to check out cabin 12's new location (but won't drive, thanks for the reminder Bingo, I had forgotten about the parking lot)
While I'm sure the old spot was fine it never really appealed to me. That corner has challenges & I hope the new development fixes that up.

I'm curious to see how they do at this new location. Seems a pretty large vibe difference between DT and Cedar Hill...

Mrs. West tried the burger and found it overcooked and lacking in seasoning and flavour. The burger to bun ratio was way off as well. A disappointment since she was really looking forward to trying the new location.

Were the burgers better in the old location?

We never tried burgers at the old location.

I was in Cabin 12 this morning around 10:00 and the place was full. Their breakfast is very popular.

To all those wondering about the name, to be honest, my first business plan was "Fat Burger, Skinny Fries"
But my mentor (Petr at Floyds) taught me what his mentors taught him (Howie and David at Pags)

Build a restaurant that you want to be in. Make it something you love from your life.

I worked Cabin 12 as a counselor at a summer camp in the Kootenays long long before it ever popped up as a business idea.

And what an idea. Imagine a restaurant where the goal was to grow people, like we did in summer camp, not just to rip them down, like we do in so many restaurants.

So laugh it up chuckles, and we'll keep doing what we do.

Giving people a better place to work and be.

I remember when you guys were on Pandora and your mission, ethos, etc. - all quite laudable. And you managed to make enough money to upgrade location. Nice work: you should be proud of yourself, as this is a tough business to survive (as I'm sure I don't have to tell you).

But dude, what's with the chip on your shoulder? People here were just giving their honest appraisals of your food, service, etc. It never feels nice to hear bad reviews, but it sounds like you're essentially brushing them off.

You're right Bob.

Honestly I'm a bit embarrassed. After years in this industry, I should have not let something as silly as people poking fun at our name, under my skin.

While the name "Cabin 12" might be highly personal to me, I've got to be honest with myself, it does sound like something a corporate computer might spit out.

I was being a bit obtuse. Thanks for the heads up.

I hope you are doing well.

Sparky!

If I'm not mistaken you were the first guest I served on the morning of "Damn the Man, Save the Cabin"! thanks for caring about us! and I'm pleased to report that for the first time, we have a horizon.

Now we flipped the new shop in 10 days (cash flow) and just to make things interesting launched a dinner service. This was a lot to chew, but I feel we planned well and I couldn't have been happier with the transition. Our crew are so good, they took a brand new space and made it their own.

And I couldn't be prouder of the food we're serving. It's simple, but fresh and homemade. And I see that this crew is so proud of what they're serving. We did it. We have no wall of hate. The front and back communicate fluidly. No one yells, no one throws pans. It's so nice.

By adding a dinner service we amped up the labour budget, allowing us to pursue a sealed chef, and got the perfect one. Chef Dave raised the bar. And I've got to give props to every staff member that stepped up, because every single one of them did.

And here's the thing. We're still new to this hood, and are still figuring out the building, the vibe and the clientele. Our business plan is built on allowing our staff to make mistakes in order to grow, and we're still in construction mode. So I know that things will still slip through the cracks.

But now I'm so confident that our crew can catch them when we do! I know sometimes things will go wrong, but I also know that each and every staff member is actively trying to prevent that. I see them all take more pride than I've seen in any restaurant I've worked. (don't ask. it's a long list..)

After 3 and a half crazy years, I get to sleep in now and then..
and it's because I know that there's 22 people that have my back.

phew...

Nice story Corey. Yes I was the first to sign that book that morning.

Glad to hear that you've got it going on. I will drop by and eat soon.

Good on ya

Mrs Deeds and I are about a good 4 iron away from the cabin and had a great breakfast there with the kids, really enjoyed the coffee being offered while we waited for a table and the eggs on my Benny were done perfectly (the make or break if we ever go back somewhere for breakfast)

Keep up the good work look forward to our next visit!

Had a great breakfast at Cabin 12 this morning. The food and service was top notch. Every table was full. This place has a very relaxed and funky atmosphere.

Keep up the good work Corey.

Presumably the change in location has been a good move for the business? I wonder how Corey feels about the move now that the Plaza redevelopment proposal is on the backburner.

Mrs. Sparky and I had a wonderful lunch at Cabin 12 today. The steak soup was to die for. Devon, the waiter, made sure we were well looked after. Three thumbs up.
