Damn, someone's going to end up buying a brand new condo with spray paint all over the walls.

Hmm, maybe but they seem to be at least 1.5 weeks away from the third floor being poured, right now.

I stopped by the Mondrian show centre today. Approximately 20 to 30% sold. Completion Date: May/June 2013. They have changed up their kitchens a bit....full review coming next week.

Old Setup.

New Setup:

Awkward oven placement. It's a pain having the handles facing inwards.

yeah, even a 6 inch counter on the left side of the stove would be nice.

Now there is also an under-mount sink and back-splash. Amidst all the heavy competition they have have undertaken upgrades.

I like the size of that fridge for an urban suite. A suburban fridge is the size of a storage locker and has multiple 4l jugs of milk and flats from Costco, urban fridges contain a bottle of vodka and a jar of olives. Perfect.

I do question the lack of working space between the stove and fridge in that unit. I hope the island has an electrical outlet for your appliances (coffee maker, toaster, cufflink polisher).

Living with an urban fridge I can tell you that it's impractical. Maybe for a 20 year old who never cooks it makes sense but once you start preparing your own meals it makes for a daily dose of frown.

Any island over 6' long is required to have an electrical outlet by code.

Looks pretty nice to me. Better than the kitchen I had when I was living in a condo near downtown.

Looks like they are already at the fifth floor. That framed support is for the sixth floorplate.

I guess I meant that the 5th floor should be finished by week's end.

Marko has published a new review, this time of the Mondrian.
Quote:

Condo Review: Mondrian
By Marko Juras
Condo Review: Mondrian | VibrantVictoria.ca

Alpha Project Development, the developer behind one of Victoria’s largest residential buildings — the 178 unit, 12-storey Aria – is aiming to be the first to finish a downtown concrete building since completion of the 14-storey The 834 in early 2012. The Mondrian, Alpha’s 10-storey, 93 unit lowrise has an anticipated completion date of June 2013. With the exception of the 11-storey The Sovereign in the 600-block of Broughton Street, all other active downtown and periphery developments are slated for completion in 2014 or 2015 giving Mondrian a major sales advantage .

Currently 25% to 30% of the units are sold (by comparison, The 834 was over 75% sold at the same stage of construction in 2010). Mondrian’s location at the intersection of Johnson and Cook streets yields easy access to a variety of transportation options, grocery stores, restaurants, recreation opportunities and various amenities that downtown Victoria has to offer. Good work, Marko. Lots of detail. One thing that is indeed nice here, as opposed to perhaps Sovereign, although I think they are a world apart in price likely, is that there really is lots of parking available on the streets all the time. It can be a ghost-town on Johnson at night.

I think it shoud have been five floors taller, ten preferably ... but, at least at ten floors, it looks just like the two buildings next to it ... adds nicely to the table top skyline!
