Walking through my home land, nerd district, I stopped into a pawn shop. I saw a stoned homeless guy sell a video ipod to the store for $40, without any cables. I'll bet my D&D dungeon master's guide it was not his. Makes me wonder how much these stores profit from theft...

Do you think this pawn shop HAS a dungeon master's guide? I could use one.

Also, I really can't stand these petty thefts. Specially when it's from a car. Do $400 in damage to a car to steal $100 worth of stuff which you then sell for $20. A screw job for everyone but the pawn shop and auto-glass repair.

Yep. I've had my car broken into (with several hundred dollars damage to the door-handle mechanism), all for about $0.55.

One more turn-off to going downtown for some folks - can't say I blame them I was pretty choked.

Someone down the street from me (Kings Rd.) had their three month old puppy stolen from their yard.

If a person's afraid of Downtown crime and parks their car at Mayfair or Hillside to avoid break-ins, they're in for a surprise.

Don't pawn shops ask for ID? I think we need Vancouver rules on selling "second hand" items.

There may be one drawback:

No matter how much we lock up and hide things--addicts still need their 50+ bucks a day. Some users can spend over $500 a day on drugs. If they can't get it from stealing from cars and homes they might resort to muggings, purse snatching and holdups.
