Default Victoria Grid Project

I'm thinking of starting a Victoria Grid Project, much like the Portland Grid project (http://www.portlandgridproject.com) in which the city was divided into mile and a half square grids and each month, photographers documented the area (in various form and film) and then got together to compare photos. I'd also like to create a website to show these photos - perhaps starting in flickr and moving to our own location later. A gallery showing sounds like an even grander goal but with help I'm into organising this if there are enough involved.

Is there any interest out there?

Perhaps once a month is too much for busy people (I include myself in this too) so every second month?

Great idea. I'd contribute!

Although not quite the same thing, have you seen this site?

I know another shutterbug who'd be willing to contribute if he'd just stop lurking!

Ada,

Perhaps VibrantVictoria can somehow aid in getting something of this sort off the ground? Please let us know if we can help.

This grid project idea sounds interesting.

Derf,

I would love the help of Vibrant Victoria. Perhaps, if I can get the first group together and we set out a grid and try our first month (or two) of photos, we can set up a page on this site dedicated to the project.

Thanks for all who are interested so far (including the lurker...). I'll leave this up for a few days and then send out a call for our first meeting.

I've gotten two emails to combine with the interest on this forum. I'm happy to see that others are excited about this as well.

Heya Ada,

I started a thread in the Victoria group on flickr to try and get some photographers over here as well.

Here's the thread in flickr:

Okay everyone!

It looks like we have a good group forming. I'm going to meet with Derf hopefully next week and then perhaps all interested can get together soon afterwards.

What I'd like to do is set up our grid and any preliminary work before the new year and then our first grid block can be explored in the month of January. Start fresh in 2007?

What do people think?

Hey this sounds like a great idea. I would love to participate. What are the chances we culminate this project with a public / net show? It is a great way for people to start thinking about their city in new ways.

Scaper and I met with Ada this evening to discuss this project.

Ada has some phenomenal ideas and we'll be seeing some neat things pop up within a little bit in cooperation with VibrantVictoria

A meeting date in December is needed to get ready for our first grid square in January. I can then explain a bit more about the whole concept and we can get some idea as to the entire area we will grid, the size of the grids and how often we will meet to discuss what we have documented.

What is the concensus?
A weekday?
A wednesday, perhaps?

I found a story on the Globe & Mail website this morning that may be of interest, a new mapping technology that combines street-level photos with online city maps:

I'm interested...but attending meetings is a challenge. Can you post here what the target block will be? Or am I missing something?
