When a lawyer suing the city calls a suicide watch video the police made to make sure someone doesn't hurt themselves a "torture" video, you know something's missing from the picture. The T/C story today states the video was released because the city wouldn't settle a lawsuit. But the story isn't about a legal shakedown. I suppose with all the anti-police sentiment the nature of the coverage is understandable. However, here's an idea of what probably came before this girl was restrained: We know she was drunk to a point that she was a danger to herself or others and the police were trying to arrest her. She was probably handcuffed but continued to struggle kicking at officers and spitting. She probably was kicking at the window inside the patrol car and/or banging her head against the window and/or saying she wants to kill herself or die and/or was small enough to slip out of the cuffs or manuver them around to the front of her body. No officer is going to use that kind of restraint unless the person is combative even when handcuffed. That she was put in a rubber room and a camera was placed on her is not an indication of torture. It's the police monitoring her to make sure she doesn't hurt herself in the cell. As usual, the girl, like all the other combative Victoria drunks, are not prosecuted for any offense by the crown and was released when sober. Will the newspaper report the rest of the story? No. The lawyers on the city's side won't comment on such things because they are ethical. Without a spokesperson to quote, the Times Colonist is impotent to investigate and discover the full story on their own. |

If she was mixing ecstasy with the alcohol it would have made her unusually aggressive. From CBC: raw video (7:44, .wmv): http://www.cbc.ca/mrl3/8752/bc/ondem...lic-tether.wmv

| The amount of anti-police sentiment currently taking place in the local media is disturbing to say the least. I am not sure why, but it feels like someone has a vendetta against the local peace-keepers. |

What do you mean just locally? Everywhere people are whining about the cops and for the most asinine reasons sometimes. Have a look at this: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=1hxOr3q7nrk This has been in the news lately but for what reason I don't know. So the cop bullied the kid a bit. Whoopty ****ing do. |

That video is a good example of what police need to NOT be.
