Been using it for a while now. It really is a pretty good service. Someone ought to make a cool downtown video and share it. In the meantime, please enjoy some Victoria Rebels football players both cross-dressing, wearing blackface, and singing karaoke last night at their victory party: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dokxKW6zcMY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2orRbmgaOtE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhQLRNNjcxM

Did you recently upload these clips? I couldn't see them as though they had yet to be processed by YouTube. Seriously: I have an okay laptop with a firewire port, Windows XP and a MiniDV camcorder. WindowsXP (and WindowsME) comes bundled with Moviemaker which is strong for small bouts of non-linear editing (nothing fancy). Through the firewire port I can get over my movie clips then pick and choose the import quality. If you go archive.org, you can get a lot Creative Commons audio. From a combination of common software and hardware (for less than $2000 all-in: camera, computer, OS, etc.), I'm able to do a lot. For example: this clip was done about six years ago and it sort of sucks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zChfHZK7Is it took a stressed five hours. this clip was done in the summer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUhWxrOyjPQ it took about 5 min. to film and 10 min. to edit. The content is apples and oranges, but after getting some DVDs for an anniversary present, I may see how long it takes to redo the "Fire on Babylon" bit. For getting DVD content, I use AoA DVD Ripper http://www.aoamedia.com/ to pull out short clips. My goal is approach the quality of these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PwpcUawjK0 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfout_rgPSA Back on topic: one way to get a YouTube Video of Victoria: combine video editing, YouTube and BitTorrent. Take video of Victoria attractions and interesting finds. Make the raw source available via Torrents so others can download the clips and turn them into something. The less tricky approach is to post the material to Archive.org as Creative Commons source. Then publicize the material via something like Vibrant Victoria. - Mike |

Man things have changed. I used to be a television producer not all that long ago and a my editing computer alone cost over 35 grand. Now you can do it ALL for less than a couple if you really try. Granted, it wouldn't be professional or anything. |

It'd be professional if you made money from it.

I wouldn't. Making money from something doesn't make it a professional job.

Seriously, MS Moviemaker by itself may make a so-so professional product, but hardware wise, you can bring in video quality material over the firewire and then edit it. The downside: the file sizes are HUGE. What may be 50MB file destined for web use is something like a 500MB file. |

If you make money from it, that's the definition of professional. But just because you're a professional doesn't mean you're good. My dentist used to live in the same building as me. So one day I bump into his wife, who happens to be a hygienist. In the conversation I reveal that I'm a patient at her husband's practice. She tells me that's good, he's a good dentist. So in jest I ask her if any of the dentists she'd worked with weren't good. She says plenty of them were absolutely terrible. I'm not a naive person, I've had plenty of run-ins with lousy dentists, doctors, teachers, tailors, lawyers (especially), you name it. But her response was so blunt, it surprised me. |

Remember all those times you fell asleep watching TV only to be awakened by this[/url:0f425]?

@ Holden: uh, no...? @ Mike deWolfe, VHF, & other netizens who produce content: don't know anything about the services described, but check out The Rise of the Netjockey - New software lets anyone create live talk shows for the Internet[/url:6a6a9], which describes a new service, Operator 11[/url:6a6a9]. Ok, I'm off to see if I can watch those YouTube clips posted by VHF...!

Ha, well... I kinda liked Richard Daniels for his infectiously goofy sincerity and Reuben Hoetmer for putting a klezmer-inspired spin on ska. Wasn't too fond of the first one -- that seemed kinda dull/clouded. But tastes differ. Looks like a good time was had by all!! Haven't watched Mike deW's yet...
