Default Galloping Goose vs. Vancouver waterfront

I know there are plans to create a waterfront walkway on the Inner Harbour but maybe the CRD already "has one". Does it make any sense to compare the Galloping Goose & Vancouver's waterfront?

The Galloping goose is a very unique route.

Other than both having pathways for pedesdrians and cyclists to use, I can't see where the two have much in common.

Vancouver's waterfront exudes urbanality, with an almost constant energy, aided by the many ammenities and residences that exist along its route.

The "Goose", although it meanders through an urban core in parts, does its best to shun all things urban for a more pastoral experience.

I won't necessarily say one is better than the other, but I can't see how one can reasonably compare them; they are just SO different.

That's what I was thinking. I don't see why it should be "pastoral" along the entire route. I can see rowhouses, etc along there where people can just go out their backdoor with a bike (or dog, or running gear, etc) & be on the Goose right away. In towards the core there could also be much more connection with the buildings that it passes, sort of like the Railyards in VicWest.

Isn't that essentially the Railyards you just described?

here's the sort of thing I mean:

http://plato-dialogues.org/tools/agora.htm

It's the agora of ancient Athens in Plato's & Aristotle's time, where the Panathenaic Way (in Victoria it would be called the Goose) cut right through the middle of it. Around the agora there were temples, the supreme court, & many other government buildings.

The Galloping Goose has the potential in some areas to become an urban walk, the agora, and I expect will be so in Vic West in a couple of years, but the route after Gorge Road is not very desirable for a long way. First off it goes through a light industrial area and then it follows the TCH for many, many km with no shielding from the highway and nothing much to look at.

The route along the TCH is the dullest bike/pedestrian route I know of anywhere. It works for getting you from A to B but not much else. The CRD should take a look at how the trail could be improved along there.

The Goose should also connect with the inner harbour walkway when it is done (if it gets done) and that should give that much more of the Vancouver Seawall feel to the trail.
