Busy shifts there will be two bartenders, the bartender doesnt just have to take care of the 20+ bar stools, but the other 148 seats ordering drinks. LOL
I have always run a small staff and it has worked in the past. we will see how this works once we get going.

I was more wondering about the entrance of the bar being close to the window rather than the other end where if needed staff good go between rooms. I guess they could Dukes of Hazard it.

I said that to OSJ when he gave me the tour, too. I guess we'll see.

Instead of the Dukes' window dive, did you mean to say the Starsky and Hutch hood scramble technique?

I'm impressed with this selection, especially considering The Keg only has six lines of Molson.

^ Ya, that's better, Dukes never used the windows as doors. On a side note, Snoop Dogg as Huggy Bear was the best ever casting move by Hollywood. Someone should get an Academy Award(TM) for that.

Yeah, well, you should keep that thing in a terrarium. Huggy Bear: Man, what the hell is a terrarium? Leon: What the f. is a terrarium? Lamell: A terrarium's an artificial ecosystem. It's designed to simulate Corky's natural habitat.

I was thinking about a "hood slide" rather than a scramble.

Any update, OSJ? I poked my head in when I was down there today, thought I might have seen you doing some trim at the back brick wall.

so here is a shot of the floors with some stain on them done today. They will still get a satin clear coat on them tomorrow.
My builders are working on my back bar this week while the floor guys are in there.
front section is tiled with a black slate and turned out great as well.
As for a opening date, I'm still waiting to hear back from the Liquor board. LOL

You have some nice beers on your list somewhere below but have you given any thought to bringing in some American craft beers? Even if you rotated two taps with US craft brews? That is something that is largely missing in Victoria and would be a great addition to an already great pub. Phillips, Driftwood and VIB are available everywhere in town and while they each have a couple of nice beers maybe 1-2 choices of each would be enough? Just my two cents.
Cheers!

Any suggestions? LDB would have to carry them, or it would be a bloody nightmare, methinks.

had thought about it, there is a rep in town who brings in american stuff. it is so expensive to get over the border. that you guys would not want to pay the prices. as well as there is no support from the breweries for stuff like glassware, giveaways, etc...
we used to have a rotating Rogue line.
Plus, when possible i would rather keep our money here in Canada.

^Yeah Cook St Village liquor has a nice selection of US craft beers, but I rarely buy them because they are so pricey. Buy two local beers for the price of one US instead.

I'm having a Rogue right now, at the Craft Beer Market in Calgary, It's decent, but it was over nine bucks. Ouch.

How about some US craft beer in bottles. I love the Acme IPA out of Fort Bragg CA. The Flying Beaver in Richmond carries it.

Hi all.

I didn't have any particular beers I'd like to see, just different stuff to the norm we get here. To be honest I don't really care for a large majority of the Phillips beer and to see 6 of their beers plus the stuff from Stanley Park (which again is ok at best) just doesn't make me excited. I love the idea of promoting local beers and I understand that the US stuff is pretty pricey but it also separates your pub from the others in town. There are only a few places I'm aware of to get something different, Clives, Spinnakers and Veneto and none of them has the really great pub vibe that GH does.

OSJ I also get the promos and glassware and other stuff you get with local...I was just throwing out my 2cents.

Anyhow happy to be able to join in the conversation.

Cheers!

i may carry some us craft beer in the btls at some point or off and on, but by doing my reno and installing a 44 beer draught system i am not really focusing on btl beer sales. I understand haviny something for everyone, but if you cant find a beer you like out of my selection thats unfortunate.
