Default Water Wheel Pub | Langford | Closed July 2011

I am hearing rumours that the Water Wheel Pub has closed its doors for good as of Monday July 11. Anybody heard anything?

Apparently, the employees showed up for work as usual only to find the place all locked up. No one had bothered telling the workers they were now out of a job.

Perhaps it's a liquor violation?

They've had violations in the past. Maybe this was the last straw. One of the other business owners on that street had been told that the pub was closed for good. But it's really just hearsay right now.

I don't think anyone would put "until further notice" on their sign if they had any plans to re-open. I don't think it's just a liquor violation.

If I understand that post correctly, a liquor store, presumably one that is open somewhere already (adjacent to the Waterwheel?) will take over the pub's space?

Don't private liquor stores have to be tied in some way to an existing pub or liquor primary business?

Yes, their liquor store is about 50 paces up Peatt occupying ground floor space in a condo building.

That place had issues similar to Montys.

It seemed was constantly snowing inside the waterwheel even in summer. I avoided it on Friday or Saturday nights. Mid week not a bad place for a meal after work.

Before it was renovated into the waterwheel it operated as a Pizza Place in an old house. Cant remember what the pizza place was called but it was definitely a Langford style place with old wooden chairs from the second hand stores and 1940s cracked lino on the floor.

When the pizza place closed they reno'd the house but the original footprint remains.

Maybe someone remembers what the pizza place was called

They just got approval to go ahead with their plans. Looks like it'll be a combination of housing and liquor store on the current Water Wheel site. The building itself will be demolished as, apparently, it was constructed in such a poor fashion it makes it impossible to save.

I was just walking past there the other day wondering whats going with the renos. Went on to Langofrds website after reading sirswithins post. Found this http://www.cityoflangford.ca/assets/Documents~Library/Notice%20of%20Intent%20-%202792%20Peatt%20Rd.pdf#search="2792 Peatt" Going to be a 6 storey building with 30 residential units and commercial on the ground floor.

That was announced a while ago all the neighbourhood was informed
Langford is playing with numbers though because the original plan described a 4 storey bldg as in metres high
But they went and changed it but don't say it in metres but as 6 floors

Previous to the building being renovated to what it looks like now it was a house converted into a pizza joint called patio Pizza unlike the other pizza joints on tillicum and mckenzie which were called pizza patio

For the last few years of its life the waterwheel pub was cocaine central
