Default Clay Pigeon | Victoria | 1002 Blanshard at Broughton

Must have sprung up over the weekend, I don't think it was there last week.

Open daily 7:30am until 10pm.

Looks quite nice, classy. No larger than the former coffee shop there, but has a nice new wood sort of bar along the back where the counter was before. Licensed, lots of wine bottles there.

Genevieve previously of SIPS is behind this, apparently with Morgan, the owner of the Pink Bike... ??

My understanding is that it was going to be a breakfast place, maybe more so.

Matt.

Default Menus

Menu Item are very reasonably priced.

Place is licensed for 23 Seats.

Its in a quiet area of town and is quaint. Looks like a good place for an intimate dinner.

Lunch will probably have a good following but with limited seating I am thinking that they will need to have take out and a phone in service so that those who are limited for time can be looked after.

Being kitty corner to the Royal Theatre show nights will attract those fro after show eats.

Hope they do well but I do imagine it will be a challenge with only 23 seats

Parking in the evening ( especially midweek) wont be a problem with the Library parkade nearby as well as street slots

You'll need to visit them for the drink menu......... cant give it all away here.

The food looks delicious and likely will be, given the pedigree. I will definitely be giving it a try.

That said, it strikes me as absolute madness, though, to have such a massive menu for only 23 covers. You don't get nearly enough turnover to sustain that variety of food, imho.

The menu did not seem huge to me. Not much larger than McRaes menu (except the breakfast items) and I have been there a couple of times and have already run out of dishes that appeal to me.

This venture could catch on as it looks like that corner is turning into a foodie district with at least three notable eateries (plus Bond Bonds bakery) within a few metres of each other.

They also seem to have a great take out menu and I assume they will have lots of outdoor seats come the good weather. Bob always has great concepts for everyone. I can only imagine he does restaurant consultation as his main occupation.

Running out of items is likely more indicative of them only being open for such a short time and still adjusting prep volumes.

This is turning into an exciting little corner. All they need to do is get a decent operation in over at Caffe Teatro and it'd be set. Now, if Bond Bonds would only get into the 21st century and accept debit/credit. I walk by there all of the time and I never have cash - so I keep walking. I wonder how many other potential Bond Bonds customers do the same. Seems kinda pennywise, pound foolish if you ask me.

I think he meant he personally has already tried everything that appeals to him, there is no more items to try. ie. he has run out of options.

Can't help thinking of the e.e.cummings poem, Buffalo Bill is Dead.
"Buffalo Bill is dead...who used to shoot one, two, three, four, five clay pigeons in a row."

I visited Clay Pigeon with friends for an evening bite.

I found my sandwich was interesting aestheticaly but it did not live up taste wise. I have since heard that I am not the only person who shares this opinion. I was also shocked that they charged $4 for a ridiculously small side of greens. And when I say small the little container must have been no bigger than 125 ml.

Service was very slow and we were the only people in the restaurant at the time. There was no apology from the waitress for the very lengthy wait for our food and when it was finally delivered a request to remove an ingredient due to an alergy had been forgotten and one of our orders order went back into the kitchen.

The high price and inadequate customer service will keep me at bay I'm affraid.

Sorry to be negative, but maybe something good will come of it.

I've been going to the Clay Pigeon from time to time, but the customer service there has been so poor that I don't want to return. Nothing personal against anyone, but when the place is quiet and the boss isn't around, the servers simply don't give an appropriate amount attention to their customers in a timely fashion. http://vibrantvictoria.ca/forum/imag...lies/whyme.gif

I tried this place a while ago and won't be back.

I ordered a grilled cheese because it was the only remotely appetizing sounding dish on the menu.
It was literally regular bread and cheddar cheese that I paid 11 dollars for. Pretty silly, if you ask me. It should have been an awesome sandwich at that price. Sadly, it was mediocre at best.

A co-worker of mine recently ordered the ricotta pancakes for lunch. She got 2 pancakes and paid 11 bucks as well. Apparently they were "meh"

On the plus side, the decor and atmosphere is appealing and calming. The music wasn't overly offensive, and the staff is polite. I may return and try something else one day, but no more cheese sandwiches for me.

I liked it. We went awhile ago, I think I had a breakfast sandwich of some sort, or a bree sandwhich??? I really can't remember. Food was good, it was a bit pricey but the chef I was with said it wasn't too bad. Everything tasted fresh. The place was packed and the service was not lacking; in fact we got served twice! I think the two people that were waiting tables were not sure whose section we were supposed to be in, or the other was trying to help out and was not communicating that with the other server. We got our bill twice
