Default Romeo's Place restaurants

Per Saturday's T-C article (by Darren Kloster), Romeo's will open a new location in downtown Victoria later this year.

Does anyone know where this will be located?

My 'best guess' is the former CompuSmart location @ Yates/Vancouver...

And go head-to-head with Moxie's and to a MUCH lesser extent, Pizza Hut?

Romeo's has got to be the most overrated series of restaurants. The only thing they have going for them are their pizzas. The rest of their food is downright disgusting.

I think they'd do well as they seem to serve a much different market than either of those places.

The closest competitor to Romeo's downtown might actually be Passero's (Greek/Italian combination).

And, prior to the Juliet's construction, Romeo's seemed to do well for about 3 decades downtown...

When I was at UVic in the 1980s, Romeo's did a good pizza and decent Italian. Since I have been back in Victoria, I have yet to have a good meal at any Romeos.

One time I got a Chicken parmigiana with orange cheddar cheese.......

Just for kicks, here's a really, really poorly written upper-level UBC geography project done up about five years ago by a member of Mavrikos mafia:

Wonder what mark he got...

Are the Mavriko's Italian or Greek? Mavriko seems like a Greek name to me.

They are Greek... and many Greek offerings are offered at Romeo's as well.

Ya, I've seen that before, badly done.

I like this part:

However, Romeos can combine this information with the amount of money that is spent in order to, like previously stated, create promos or special discounts for those in the lower income areas and maybe if they wanted (but wouldn't be right) raise the prices on some of the main foods ordered form the higher income areas.
Ah, the youth of today. Kind to the poor, to stupid to price things to the rich where they should be... ah to be a young, naive socialist again... wait a minute, I never was...

It looks like a relatively small dining space. I am assuming the kitchen will be in the NE corner (the 2-level section).

Not sure if this has been mentioned somewhere else, but they are finally open. Just walked by and there was some people inside eating lunch.

I popped in the new location today for a look-see and I must say it is the swankiest looking Romeo's I have ever seen. They appear to be wanting to go head-to-head with the Earl's/Cactus Club crowd. The lounge area is distinctly seprate from the dining area. It looks as though a decent size patio will soon be open as well. Now about the menu...

Were serving staff members more attractive than mere average humans?

From my quick perusal they looked more attractive than average Romeo's staff.

I take it there's an improvement from the previous Downtown location? :P

No doubt Romeo's looked at Cactus and Earl's, saw the huge late night market operating as a de facto bar and decided to join the crowd.

Earl's was dinged for that once. Cactus had to make some interior structural changes to keep the authorities happy; stupid*.

When I looked at Romeo's hours they didn't seem too late. Maybe 11pm week nights, 12 or at the latest 1am weekends. Remember the old Romeo's stayed open until 4 or maybe 5 even.

* use of semicolon might not be correct here, but you don't get many chances to use it - so I went for it.

OK, I'm back home.

First, they had wifi, I think. At least one showed up when I checked, but it was password protected (Lord knows why) but I never asked for a password.

Young host seated me, my guest was already there.

I had BLT and fries. 3.7/5. Cold ketchup, right out of the fridge. I don't like that.

My guest had an omelet. She thought it was overcooked, but the ingredients were good, tomato was fresh etc. Her accompanying salad (she had choice of salad or fries with that omelet) had limpy lettuce, but the tomato and cucumber was OK.

The wine was good, she said.

She liked her toast. So she gives it a 3.1/5.

$35 plus tip, whatever, about standard.

Waitress was good enough, but a little meek, not exactly a take-charge kind of girl, by any means. She was very young, but at least 19 I presume.

Default Romeo's Flagship restaurant on Blanshard

Tried the new Romeo's on Blanshard out last nite. Fantastic food, ambiance and service. What a beautiful joint.

Try their roasted potatoes with your entree...OMG.

Steaks were fabulous and so was the waiter. Didn't get his name but if you get a waiter who looks as though he just stepped out of a magazine cover for GQ then you have the guy.

Great looking, personable staff.

Kudos to Romeo's. Well done!!!!

4 of us went and we have all worked as waiters and we all agreed WELL DONE!!!
