Default Sooke Harbour House | Sooke | 1528 Whiffen Spit Rd.

The place is spectacular. Amazing atmosphere, overlooking the straight and the Olympics. The hotel and restaurant is just filled with a sample of works from some the most incredible local artists. And the food...what can I say... gorgeous, fresh and very local.

Here's a pic of the edible garden. Over 100 different kinds of herbs grow just outside the dining room.

Even the garden is filled with amazing artwork!

I've never been to Sooke. I should go out there one of these days I suppose.

Anyway, the food looks good, but not what I would eat.

Holy...those plates look so delicious.

I've only had plates of food "art" a few times but what it may lack in visual familiarity it certainly makes up for with taste.

I have many friends who are working at Sooke Harbour House in the kitchen. They are all talented chefs.

I have always thought the dining room to be quite tacky, but it does represent western canadian culture, so I wouldnt change it.

One thing I bet you didnt know about Sooke Harbour House. It is a macrobiotic restaurant. Meaning, they only use locally grown vegetables, fruit, meats and poultry. What this means is that you will never have a meal cooked with any ingredient that wasnt grown locally. Want lemon on your fish.. wont happen. Lemons dont grow locally. And this in turn represents another facet of western canadian culture.

/\ Hmmm... Interesting.
The garden is really the most amazing thing.
And I agree the dining room is looking a bit shabby. All it really needs is a new carpet. The waiter was a bit snooty too. The food is the biggest reason to go.

Default Great Place

Yes...the Sooke Harbour House is a fantastic place...I was married there in 2000, with friends & family all staying overnight & a special menu that evening for our wedding. Before you ask...it was expensive but everyone shared in the cost & it was well worth it....
Take a drive there someday...even for just a light lunch...it's very relaxing.

Yes the cost makes it a place that you only go once in a blue moon, but in the infrequency of it makes the experience more special.

When they first opened the place in the early 80s, one could go for a seafood buffet, $15.95 per person. It was amazing! The french desserts were to die for. I'd love to go back, but my budget isn't up to it yet.

My friend used to work there, got plenty of stars and such.

Had a little discussion with Wesley Snipes trying to get him to wear his bib for lobster, Mr. Snipes decided to work without a net.

Mrs Sparky and I went to the Sooke Harbour House for the first time ever today for lunch.
We had a delightful time. Good food and great service from Anna our waitress. The view from our table was fantastic, but a bit grey out for a decent pic.

We were able to check out some of the rooms.

The elevator was a bit on the wild side.

This hotel and dining room is definitely upscale.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time out here on a rainy west coast afternoon.

Thanks for the memory there Sparky. Mrs ASE and I stayed out at SHH for a weekend in 2010 and thoroughly enjoyed it. As you would expect the cost is not for the faint of heart for 2 nights and meals etc. The credit card will certainly get a thorough drubbing but nonetheless if you are celebrating a special anniversary etc., IMO its well worth the money. We did it in late summer and so were able to enjoy sitting outside on the grounds as well as a nice walk at nearby Whiffen Spit.

^ I'm glad that brought back fond memories. I think lunch is the lightest experience that your AMX card would have to go through. Blessings to you and Mrs. ASE.

Thanks Tim and to you; we have yet to properly thank everyone who contributed and spoke at dad's service including you...we'll get it done eventually. Pretty tough with mom's situation which monopolizes our time. Anyway I digress. I surprised missus ASE with that SHH weekend and it definitely was a surprise in the best possible way. I could not recommend it highly enough. And dinner was absolutely first rate. One nice touch was that no matter where you were seated all tables had a view of the ocean. And the private deep soaker tubs outside on the decks of the suites didn't hurt either
