Approved project [Saanich] Ambleside condos, townhomes | 4-storeys | Approved

Ambleside is a new development at Carey and Glanford in Saanich.

The project will consist of a mix of condos in a four-storey building, townhomes and a (single) single family dwelling.

The architect is Merrick so we ought to expect a decent finished product.

Nothing out of the ordinary, but a good project for the neighbourhood. Good on Saanich for approving this. I guess approvals are easy when you have no heritage to preserve.

Mea Culpa. There is in fact a heritage building on this property. Nice to see it preserved while still allowing new construction.

The units are large compared to a lot of recent developments.

Actually, there is an old heritage house on the property which they must restore. I believe they will transform it into apartments

Hence the "Mea Culpa" edit to my previous post...

I love the marketing copy on the website "We don't know what leed certification means, but we're green because our development is extremely low density and our parking lot is full of trees!!"

When I think green and progressive, I think sprawling low-density.

What's wrong with a 4-storey condo and townhomes in a suburban setting? I think the whole pitch behind this project is to preserve as much of the greenspace and trees on the property, meanwhile building something far denser than several single family dwellings as much of that neighbourhood is made up of.

Yeah it's pretty laughable.
"We don't cotton to no fancy 'carbon-footprint' nonsense, but we sure do have some trees on this property."

Pretty sure this site is now in full-on construction mode but it is going by a new name... Woodland something or other? Everytime I drive by I keep meaning to google the name on the sign (which I cannot remember right now obviously) to view floorplana, etc.
