In 1890 this address was listed as 104 Johnson St The Building now houses Aveda but it was one a Butcher Shop owned by Richard Porter. The newspaper clipping is from the TC 1984 The Ghost sign appears to be not painted on but made of different coloured bricks and seeing that the family were involved in brick manufacturing they could very well have made the sign this was instead of with paint. This is one of my favorite ghost signs in Victoria. There are many more that are hidden and even more that have been painted over. I'm going to go onto this roof sometime and see if it in fact is made of lighter coloured bricks The sign says R Porter Wholesale and Retail. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
